The Village At Lyons

Our civil ceremony and reception are both on in The Village at Lyons, which is located near Newcastle (just off the N7). The restored 17th century village is home to the Clodagh McKenna Cookery School, beautiful grounds and, now, our wedding!

More Details

You can read all about the venue on their website, www.villageatlyons.com. Find out how to get there, and see the accommodation on-site, and nearby, below.

Public Transport

There's no good option, as the 68 will only get you to Newcastle. Taxi, or let us know where you're coming from and we'll organise someone with spare seats to give you a lift.

Local Taxis/Cabs

There are a few taxi and cab companies in Celbridge, if you need them to get to the venue, or home:

Sat Nav

The exact coordinates are 53.29799, -6.55705 (which are not the coordinates that a Google Maps search (or some Sat Nav searches) for Village at Lyons will give you.

Driving from Dublin

  • Head out the N7, past the Red Cow roundabout, and take the Rathcoole exit (Junction 4).
  • Take the last exit at the roundabout coming off the N7, signposted Greenogue and Newcastle.
  • That takes you over the bridge going across the N7. Go straight through the roundabout at the other side of the bridge.
  • Keep going straight all the way, past the Greenogue Business Park, and you'll come to Newcastle.
  • Drive through the village, and on the way out (as the row of shops come to an end), there's a slight left bend with a burnt out white building on the right hand side. Go past that right turn (Celbridge), and take the next right after that (brown signpost for Village at Lyons).
  • Drive straight down that road, until you come to the gated entrance to Lyons. It's just before a narrow hump-back bridge over the canal. There are a couple of estate entrance gates that are locked before hand, so don't worry!.
  • When driving up the pretty long driveway, mind the speed bumps! Don't be fooled by their meek appearance!
  • At the end of the drive, there is the car park on the left, and The Mill building on the right (you have no choice but to turn in to the car park!). The ceremony & reception are on in The Mill.

Driving from Clare/Limerick

  • Take the first exit at the roundabout coming off the N7, signposted Greenogue and Newcastle.

- Accommodation -

Staying in The Village at Lyons

There are a limited number of rooms available in the Lyons. We've been in most of them, and they really do look as fabulous as they do on the website. There is a special wedding rate (€170 per room per night for 1 or 2 nights, or €150 prpn for 3 nights). If you're interested in booking one of these rooms, please let us know. They're located within the village, but are a 5 minute walk away from The Mill (where the ceremony/reception is being held). There is a free golf caddy service to transport you to/from the rooms.

Nearby hotels

There are a few budget hotels that are a 10-15 minute taxi away and shouldn't be more than €15-20. In order of distance from Lyons:

Nearby B&Bs

Here are some nearby B&Bs, as provided by the Lyons. We haven't heard any reviews of any of these, I'm afraid:

  • Woodside Lodge, Barberstown, Straffan, Co Kildare - 01 627 3499 (Bob & Dolores Travers; no relation!)
  • Straffan Manor, Straffan, Co. Kildare - 01 627 8989 (Alan & Aine Keane)
  • Hazel wood B&B, Straffan, Co. Kildare - 01 627 2202 (Charles & Marjorie Hayes)

- The Plan! -

Civil Ceremony - 3pm

We gather for the ceremony at 3 (don't be late!) in The Mill, which is the main building in the Village at Lyons. We've gone for a small ceremony with immediate family and a few friends. The HSE registrar will perform a short ceremony where we exchange vows, and rings, but without a religious aspect. The ceremony lasts about half an hour. After the ceremony, we have some canapés and bar service to keep us ticking over until dinner! We'll also be moving from the main function room to the small bar, whilst The Mill staff set up our dinner service.

Dinner - 6pm

After the bar has been drunk dry, the photos taken, and all the jokes about filing for divorce have been delivered, we should be sitting down to dinner at around 6. With our small number of guests, we're having a banquet style table, so the seating plan should be a bit easier.

Evening Reception - 8.30pm

When we're finished eating dinner, rubbing our bellies and loosening our belts, the dinner service is cleared away, and the function room bar opens. A D.J. will arrive shortly after. There are plenty of quiet corners in the room if you need to escape the noise!

If you've got an evening invite, please join us for 8.30. Don't worry about arriving too early, as there's a separate bar in The Mill where you can hide out until you're brave enough to join us!

The bar service finishes at 1, and taxis can/will be arranged for anyone that needs them. Smoking access is just outside the door!
